Brook's ODI reign begins with crushing England victory over West Indies
Harry Brook's reign as England's white-ball captain began with an emphatic 238-run victory over the West Indies in the first game of their ODI series at Edgbaston.
Brook, Ben Duckett and Joe Root all posted half-centuries, but the most impressive contribution came from Jacob Bethell, who struck 82 from 53 balls.
England plundered 400 runs in the first innings to assert control before skittling their opponents out for just 162 runs from 26.2 overs.
After his disappointing showing in the Champions Trophy at number three, Jamie Smith opened the batting for the first time for England and laid the foundations for his team.
Smith reached 37 runs in 24 deliveries before being dismissed in the seventh over by Alzarri Joseph (2-69).
Duckett had helped lead England make 64 for that first wicket and reached his half-century after 34 balls before being removed by a stunning catch from Royston Chase.
That was about as good as it got for the tourists as Root (57), Brook (58) and Jos Buttler (37) each contributed handily before falling to Jayden Seales, who ended with figures of 4-84.
Bethell took centre stage as he smashed a six in five consecutive overs, setting the Windies a target they were never likely to trouble.

It took just three overs for England to get their first wicket on the board, with Justin Greaves (four) falling to Saqib Mahmood and Brandon King (10) quickly following.
The standout moment of the second innings then came when Brydon Carse claimed a stunning catch on the boundary to dismiss Shai Hope (25).
Jamie Overton (3-22) overcame a finger injury that briefly saw him off the field to run through the lower order, before Adil Rashid (2-30) wrapped up victory with the wicket of Joseph (12).
Data Debrief: Dream debut for record-breaker Brook
Brook could not have asked for a better start as captain of England, with his team showcasing imperious form with both the bat and ball on Thursday.
Indeed, England posted their second-biggest ODI win by runs, trailing only their 242-run victory against Australia at Trent Bridge in 2018.
Brook also marked his big day with a personal record, taking five catches, the most by an England fielder in an ODI.
