Australia clinched the second ODI against India in Adelaide to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, chasing down 265 with two wickets in hand.

Matthew Short starred with a career-best 74, while Cooper Connolly’s composed 61 not out helped Australia overcome a shaky middle-order collapse.

Despite a strong partnership between Rohit Sharma (73) and Shreyas Iyer (61), India were undone by early breakthroughs from Xavier Bartlett (3-39) and Adam Zampa (4-60) as Virat Kohli was dismissed for another duck.

Axar Patel (44) helped set a respectable total, while Australia stuttered at 132-4, with the experienced Indian bowling attack keeping the hosts in check.

Short and Connolly then steadied the innings with a crucial half-century partnership, combining aggressiveness and composure to shift the momentum back in Australia’s favour. Short, in just his 17th ODI, punished India for fielding lapses and brought the target within reach.

In the final overs, Australia experienced a brief collapse, losing three quick wickets. Mitchell Owen, on debut, provided a quickfire 36 off 23 balls, and Connolly held his nerve to guide Australia across the line in the 47th over.

Data Debrief: Contrasting emotions for Short and Kohli

Short delivered a career-best 74 off 78 balls, guiding Australia through a tricky middle-order collapse and stabilising the chase after they were 132-4.

It was also a memorable day for Connolly, who scored just 10 runs across his previous three innings in the format, as he registered his maiden ODI half-century with 61 not out from 53 balls.

On the other hand, Kohli was dismissed for back-to-back ducks for the first time in his ODI career, while Rohit's 73 took him past Sourav Ganguly into third place in India's run list in the format.
