ATP Finals: Sinner sees off Shelton to stay perfect in Turin
Jannik Sinner continued his perfect record at the ATP Finals this year, as he brushed aside Ben Shelton in straight sets on Friday.
Sinner's place in the semi-final was locked in, while Shelton had already been eliminated, and the Italian overcame a shaky performance in a 6-3 7-6 (7-3) win in one hour and 36 minutes.
The world number two started on the front foot, earning a break in the first game before holding off a spirited Shelton's attempts to get back on level terms shortly after.
Sinner then edged into the lead with another vital break in the final game of the first set, converting his second attempt, but could not find another edge in the next.
Shelton kept himself in the game without ever putting too much force on Sinner, who struggled to find rhythm on serve.
The American defended Sinner's match point while on serve and stayed locked in through to the tie-break, where his second-set surge fizzled out.
Sinner goes into the semi-final having topped the Bjorn Borg group, and will face Alex De Minaur in the semi-final on Saturday as he aims to keep his title defence alive.

Data Debrief: Sinner stays strong
Since the event's inauguration in 1970, Sinner is the first player to win all three round-robin matches without conceding a set in consecutive years at the ATP Finals.
In fact, Sinner has now won eight consecutive matches at the season finale without dropping a set.
Sinner may not have delivered his best performance, but he stretched his indoor winning streak to 29 matches.
