England have named Jofra Archer in their T20 World Cup squad, while fellow pace bowler Josh Tongue has also been included.

Archer has been ruled out of the last two Ashes Tests in the ongoing five-match series as he continues to recover from a side strain.

However, the 30-year-old is included in the provisional 15-man party for the tournament in India and Sri Lanka, which starts on February 7.

Tongue has also been selected and is set to play in a white-ball international for the first time, following his impressive displays during the Ashes.

Prior to the World Cup, England will contest three ODIs and three T20Is during a tour of Sri Lanka next month in preparation for the tournament.

Archer will miss those games, with Brydon Carse providing cover during that tour, while there is no place in either squad for Jamie Smith, who has been struggling for form with the bat.

Jordan Cox had been tipped for selection after impressing in the Hundred, but he has been edged out by Tom Banton for a place in the World Cup squad.

Captain Harry Brook, Joe Root, Jacob Bethell, Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley and Will Jacks join Archer, Tongue and Carse as players set to play some part in the white-ball matches, having already been involved in the Ashes.

Duckett, Bethell and Jacks feature in both squads, while Root and Crawley will just play in the ODI series, which is important for England as they look to secure automatic qualification for the 50-over Cricket World Cup, which will be held in 2027.
