Women's FA Cup: Chelsea leave it late against Tottenham as Man City edge into semi-finals
Veerle Buurman's 86th-minute stunner sent defending Women's FA Cup champions Chelsea into the semi-finals of the competition following a 2-1 win over rivals Tottenham.
Having seen Sam Kerr's opener cancelled out by Eveliina Summanen in the 52nd minute, Buurman picked out the top corner from the edge of the box late on to seal the victory.
The Blues, who were knocked out of the Women's Champions League at the quarter-final stage by Arsenal in midweek, started brightly but could not find a way past Lize Kop.
Alyssa Thompson and Lauren James were both denied by the Spurs goalkeeper, but Sonia Bompastor's side were able to get themselves in front five minutes before the break.
Neat build-up down the left-hand side ended with Keira Walsh standing up a cross for Kerr to attack, with her header finding the back of the net with the help of the left post.
However, Spurs restored parity seven minutes after the restart through Summanen, who saw her free-kick evade everyone in the box and loop over Hannah Hampton.
Chelsea squandered a glorious chance to retake the lead in the 82nd minute, but Kerr was unable to add a finishing touch to Wieke Kaptein's superb ball across the six-yard box.
But with extra time looming, Buurman came up with a bolt from the blue as she gathered possession before unleashing a fierce left-footed drive into the roof of the net.

The six-time winners will be joined in the final four by Women's Super League leaders Manchester City after they beat Birmingham 1-0 at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park.
Khadija Shaw put the Citizens into an eighth-minute lead after latching onto Iman Beney's inch-perfect pass into her path before finishing first time past Lucy Thomas.
Aoba Fujino then forced Birmingham goalkeeper Thomas into a smart stop before Shaw's fierce strike deflected off Neve Herron and onto the crossbar just before the interval.
A low-key second half saw the Citizens register just two shots on target, but they were able to hold on to progress to the semi-finals.
Data Debrief: Kerr ends goalless drought against Spurs
Kerr was instrumental in Chelsea's victory, leading the way with team-high totals for shots on target (two) and touches in the opposition box (eight), while only Thompson (three) created more chances than the Australian's two.
She also ended a run of three games in all competitions without scoring against Spurs, having netted in six straight prior to Monday's clash, while her 40th-minute strike means she has now scored in each of her last eight FA Cup outings (12 goals).
Chelsea have also now won each of their last 19 meetings with Spurs in all competitions, and they were worthy of their triumph here, having registered an expected goals (xG) total of 2.93 from their 17 shots to Spurs' measly tally of 0.44 from their 11 attempts.
