Luke Voit starred with the bat and Gerrit Cole pitched a two-hitter as the New York Yankees swept Friday's doubleheader against the Baltimore Orioles in MLB.

Voit hit a pair of three-run homers to lead the Yankees to a 10-1 rout of American League (AL) East rivals the Orioles in game two.

The Yankees star took his season tally to 16 home runs, tying Los Angeles Angels slugger Mike Trout for the most in MLB.

It came after Yankees ace Cole inspired a 6-0 victory over the Orioles in the opening game.

Cole threw a seven-inning two-hitter, striking out nine and walking one, not permitting a hit until the fifth inning.

In Buffalo, the New York Mets showed no mercy in an 18-1 demolition of the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Mets used a 10-run fourth inning to humble the Blue Jays, behind Jacob deGrom's impressive display.

Mets star and two-time National League (NL) Cy Young Award winner DeGrom struck out nine and held the Blue Jays to just three hits, two walks and a first-inning run.

On the 19th anniversary of the September 11 attacks in New York, the Mets and Yankees outscored their opponents by 32 runs. Per STATS, it is the largest combined scoring margin the Mets and Yankees have ever had on a single day. The last time New York's MLB teams had that big of a margin on a day was in 1950.

Rays in MLB first

The Tampa Bay Rays named nine left-handed batters in their starting line-up – a first in modern MLB history. Tampa Bay went on to beat the Boston Red Sox 11-1.

Shane Bieber recorded his 100th strikeout of the season in just 62.3 innings. No pitcher has reached the mark faster than Bieber, but the Cleveland Indians lost 3-1 to the Minnesota Twins.

Voit became the second player in Yankees history to hit a three-run homer or grand slam off the same relief pitcher twice in the same game, according to STATS. The other was Babe Ruth in 1929.

Eloy Jimenez clubbed a three-run homer in a four-run sixth inning as the Chicago White Sox edged the Detroit Tigers 4-3.

Blue Jays costly

The Jays have scored and allowed a 10-run inning in their last four games. According to STATS, the only other time in the expansion era a team did that was in 2003.
