Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton has a strained right calf and is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Tuesday to determine the extent of the injury, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported.

Haliburton briefly exited Tuesday’s 120-109 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 5 of the NBA Finals after he aggravated an existing injury in the first quarter.

Haliburton returned to the game in the second quarter but was visibly limited. He finished with four points, seven rebounds and six assists, and he shot 0 for 6 from the field.

After a press conference following Game 2, Haliburton had an apparent limp, and he told reporters he was dealing with a right ankle issue.

On Monday, Haliburton said that the injury that limited him in Game 5 was “in the same area.”

Indiana coach Rick Carlisle admitted that his star point guard was not a full strength on Monday, but Haliburton was adamant he would not sit out Thursday’s Game 6 in Indianapolis with the Pacers facing elimination.

“If I can walk, then I want to play,” Haliburton said.

Haliburton has been the Eastern Conference champions’ driving force on offence, averaging 17.9 points and 9.1 assists in 21 games this post-season. The Pacers’ improbable comebacks and Haliburton’s game-winning shots have been among the signature moments of this year’s playoffs.

Indiana are 8-1 this post-season when Haliburton scores at least 20 points, and they are 9-1 when he dishes out at least 10 assists.

Haliburton is averaging 15 points, 6.2 rebounds and 7.2 assists against the Thunder in these Finals.
