Slot questions Liverpool luck as future signing Jacquet joins injury list
Arne Slot suggested an injury to Jeremy Jacquet summed up Liverpool's season as he asked: "Are we unlucky?"
Jacquet will not join Liverpool from Rennes until the end of the season but has suffered a shoulder setback that will sideline him in the meantime.
The centre-back has plenty in common with his new team-mates then, with Liverpool without several of their existing defensive options due to injury.
Those issues have led star midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai to play at right-back, but he is now suspended, too.
Jacquet should be fit in time to make his mark for Liverpool next season, but under-fire boss Slot could not help but note this latest news as he rues a luckless campaign.
"It feels like [Liverpool have been unlucky], that's for sure," Slot said. "Even if we sign a player and he's not even playing for us, he gets injured.
We have reached an agreement for the transfer of Jeremy Jacquet from Stade Rennais, with the defender set to join the club ahead of the 2026-27 season, subject to a work permit and international clearance

"Sometimes it feels like that, but the moment you start to feel it's all bad luck, it probably comes to you as well. So, we should keep it away as much as possible and focus on the performance and what we can do to improve it.
"But the amount of times we conceded late goals in [added] time is far more than usual. The question is: is it bad luck or are we to blame?
"I've tried many different things; I've made defensive substitutions and the ball went in, I've kept playing the same players and the ball went in. We've tried a lot. I can fairly say we haven't been lucky, that is definitely true.
"The question is: are we unlucky or is it part of who we are? That is something we can only find out in the upcoming three to four months."
Liverpool's dramatic defeat to Manchester City on Sunday, in which Szoboszlai was sent off, left them in sixth in the Premier League table.
The Reds have conceded four 90th-minute winners in league matches this season; already the joint-most by a team in a single Premier League campaign, after Watford in 2017-18, West Ham in 2021-22, Watford in 2021-22, and Southampton in 2024-25.
