Arne Slot "completely understands" the frustrations of Liverpool fans, after sections of the Anfield crowd seemingly jeered his team after Saturday's draw with Burnley.

Liverpool were pegged back to a 1-1 draw by the relegation-battling Clarets, with Marcus Edwards cancelling out Florian Wirtz's opener.

Wirtz's strike came after Dominik Szoboszlai clattered the crossbar from a penalty.

Liverpool finished the match with 32 shots, getting 11 of those on target, while their accumulative expected goals came in at 3.18.

Their tally of shots is their most in a Premier League game since versus Brentford in January last season (37), but that did not stop the home fans voicing their frustration at full-time.

"In my head it wasn't booing but in my head it was frustration as well," Slot told BBC Sport.

"If you, as Liverpool, are not disappointed by having a draw at home to Burnley then something is completely wrong.

"I completely understand the frustration. I have the same frustrations and the players definitely have the same frustrations as the fans."

Cody Gakpo had an attempt cleared off the line, while Hugo Ekitike saw a goal disallowed for offside, though Liverpool did rely on Alisson to get them out of trouble prior to Edwards' equaliser, when the goalkeeper prevented an Ibrahima Konate own goal.

For the first time since the 1980-81 top-flight season (D1 L2), Liverpool have failed to win any of their three home league games against newly promoted sides, drawing all three matches in 2025-26.

"I agree that we should have won this game," Slot said. "There wasn't a lot more I could ask in terms of chance creation. We have a lot of ball possession but I would love us to create more.

"If we play a bit more open you always wonder if the other team can counter-attack you more, which you couldn't. I don't know how many moments we had, but we could only score one.

"They come in different fashions. Sometimes it is that we are scoring a goal in stoppage time and you expect to win the game and then you concede another goal in stoppage time.

"But yeah, in football, one team can have two chances - one was almost an own goal by us - and score one goal while the other team has multiple chances and scores just one goal as well."
