Rybakina overcomes Wang test to reach last 16 in Qatar
Elena Rybakina continued her brilliant start to the season with a straight-sets win over Xin Wang at the Qatar Open.
Playing her first match since winning the Australian Open, Rybakina won 6-2 6-4 to reach the last 16 in Doha.
Rybakina's sizzling serve was on display as she conceded just four points across her first three service games.
Wang saved a break point in the second game of the first, but succumbed to the pressure later on as Rybakina broke her counterpart's serve in back-to-back games to nose ahead.
Wang put up more resistance in the second and threatened to take the match to a deciding set after taking Rybakina's serve before saving four break points to go 4-2 up.
However, the second seed upped the level as she won four consecutive games, clinching victory with her first match point.
