The Tampa Bay Rays got the better of Gerrit Cole and the New York Yankees, while Max Fried impressed again in MLB on Monday.

Cole struck out seven in five innings, but he gave up eight hits and four runs as the Yankees fell to the Rays 5-3.

Rays pitcher Tyler Glasnow starred, striking out nine in six innings and giving up just two hits.

The Rays are 25-11 and are now 4.5 games clear of the Yankees in the American League (AL) East.

Fried is now 6-0 this season after helping the Atlanta Braves past the Boston Red Sox 6-3.

The Braves pitcher conceded five hits in five innings as Austin Riley's three-run triple proved crucial.

Fried is the first left-hander to allow no homers through eight starts with his team winning all eight since Babe Ruth in 1917, according to STATS.

White Sox's key win, Bieber leads Indians

In a clash between two heavyweights in the AL Central, the Chicago White Sox beat the Minnesota Twins 8-5.

Jose Abreu, Luis Robert, Adam Engel and Nomar Mazara each had two RBIs for the White Sox.

Shane Bieber continued to impress, striking out nine and giving up just one hit in six innings, but the Cleveland Indians were edged 2-1 by the Kansas City Royals.
