Marlins acquire two-time Gold Glove winner Marte from Diamondbacks
The Miami Marlins acquired star outfielder Starling Marte in a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Stepping up their efforts to make the MLB playoffs, the Marlins acquired two-time Gold Glove winner Marte in exchange for Caleb Smith, Humberto Mejia and a player to be named later on Monday.
Marte, who is eligible for free agency at the end of the 2020 campaign, only joined the Diamondbacks from the Pittsburgh Pirates during the offseason.
The 2016 All-Star had 11 extra-base hits, two homers, 23 runs scored, 14 RBIs and five steals with the Diamondbacks this season.

Marte had spent most of his career playing for the Pirates, where he debuted in 2012, before the 31-year-old was dealt by Pittsburgh at the end of the 2019 season.
The Marlins, who also traded second baseman Jonathan Villar to the Toronto Blue Jays, are in the hunt for a postseason berth – Miami second in the National League (NL) East behind the Atlanta Braves.
