Pebble Beach champion Morikawa kept the faith amid long trophy drought
Collin Morikawa never lost belief in himself amid his long run without a trophy, as the two-time major winner celebrated a triumph at Pebble Beach.
Morikawa's success on Sunday in California marked his first title since October 2023, as he edged out Min Woo Lee and Sepp Straka by one shot.
A slip-up looked on the cards when Morikawa bogeyed the 17th, but after a long wait to get on the 18th, he birdied the par-five last hole to finish on 22 under.
"I've put countless hours and nights into it – too many hours thinking about golf," Morikawa told Sky Sports.
"I'm thankful for the people around me. They kept believing in me, I kept believing in myself.
"At the beginning of this week, it didn't feel like this would be possible, but I was able to put one step in front of the other, play some great shots and some great putts."
California native Morikawa has now won three of his seven PGA Tour titles in his home state.

World number one Scottie Scheffler was among those applying the pressure to Morikawa, as he surged up the leaderboard by carding 63, the best round of the day.
Scheffler finished T4 on 20 under alongside Tommy Fleetwood.
"I had to do something special today to give myself a chance," Scheffler said.
"I was playing really aggressive, a bit more aggressive than maybe I normally am, so a few bogeys on the card.
"I've felt like I'm battling all week just to give myself a chance and then to have some special stuff happen today and put myself in the clubhouse with a chance is always nice."
Scheffler, who was eight back from the lead at the start of the day, became the first player to record three eagles in a round at Pebble Beach Golf Links during the Pro-Am (since 1983).
Rory McIlroy, meanwhile, ended his title defence with a final-round 64.
"There was a couple of destructive tee shots yesterday but everything feels in pretty good shape," McIlroy said.
"But all-in-all some really good stuff this week and I'm pretty encouraged going into next week for sure."
