Norris taking it one weekend at a time after Mexico victory
Lando Norris tempered his Formula One title expectations despite taking the lead in the drivers' championship with a statement drive at Sunday's Mexico City Grand Prix.
Norris stormed to victory at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, taking the chequered flag over 30 seconds in front of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, who came home in second.
But, more importantly for the Briton, he now leads the drivers' standings by one point to team-mate Oscar Piastri, who recovered from a poor start to take fifth place.
Indeed, Norris has now registered 16 podiums this season, becoming the sixth driver to achieve that number or more in a single year in F1, after Lewis Hamilton (six different years), Max Verstappen (three), Sebastian Vettel (two), Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg (both once).
His sensational display also saw him lead the championship for the first time since the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in April, though Norris was not getting ahead of himself with four races of the season still remaining.
"It's one weekend at a time, I'm happy, and I'm focused on myself. I keep my head down, and I keep to myself, it's working at the minute, so I'm happy," Norris said.

Norris' triumph is also the 10th of his F1 career, six of which have come this season.
It was also McLaren's first win in Mexico since Ayrton Senna's victory in 1989.
"What a race, I could just keep my eyes forward and focus on what I was doing," Norris added.
"A pretty straightforward race for me, which is just what I was after. A good start, a good launch and a good first lap, and I could go from there."
Though Norris' victory seemed straightforward, he was put under pressure on a chaotic first lap that saw both Verstappen and George Russell go off the track.
"Just stay relaxed and get a good launch. That was the best thing and I think I got a much better launch than the guys around me," Norris said of the first lap.
"This is awesome and unbelievable, my first win here in Mexico and a beautiful one to win, especially here in the stadium. A big thanks to all the fans."
The F1 calendar now takes a one-week break before the drivers return to Brazil for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, a race McLaren have won a record 12 times.
