Lando Norris says he had a "bad day" in Friday's practice sessions for the Singapore Grand Prix and that he has plenty of things to work on before the race.

His McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri topped a chaotic second practice, which was disrupted by two long red flags after crashes by George Russell and Liam Lawson.

The former lost control on the entry to Turn 16, missing the rest of the session after requiring a full system reset, while Lawson crashed on the exit of the same chicane, breaking his right-sided wheels.

Racing Bulls' Isack Hadjar was second fastest, ahead of Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso, who had topped the first session.

Norris was also hit by Charles Leclerc in the pit lane, a collision which resulted in a broken front wing for the McLaren. Ferrari released the Monegasque into the Brit's path as they both headed out onto the track, knocking the latter into the pit wall.

Leclerc and Ferrari were then called to the stewards and could receive a fine for an unsafe release.

Norris won in Singapore in 2024, doing so from pole position, and he could become the first driver to repeat victory at Marina Bay since Lewis Hamilton in 2017 and 2018.

And the 25-year-old, who was just 0.483 seconds behind Piastri despite finishing fifth fastest, was disappointed by his performance on Friday.

"A difficult day for me," Norris said. "Not feeling too great with the car, missing all the feelings I had here last year, plenty of things to work on.

"Just a bad day.

"Oscar's quick, so I have nothing to complain about, I'm just not doing a very good job.

"[The collision with Leclerc] cost the team a bit of money, which is a shame."

Alonso impressed for Aston Martin on Friday and has previously won twice in Singapore, back in 2008 and 2010, and has five podium finishes overall at the event.

Due to the two crashes, drivers did not have time to do their race-simulation runs at the end, but Alonso remains optimistic about his chances this weekend.

"It seems little bit better than the previous grands prix. Let's try to fine-tune the set-up," Alonso said.

"It's still not in a happy place, especially on the front axle. Still a little bit too much understeer. Something to work on, but a good start.

"Since the first lap, we were in a comfy place and were able to find the limits quite quickly.

"Let's see if we can be in Q3 tomorrow and get points on Sunday. Both sessions in the top four is probably the best Friday so far, but sometimes on Friday we run with a different programme or different fuel, and the real test is [on Saturday]."
