Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were grateful to McLaren for allowing them to race for victory at the Austrian Grand Prix.

McLaren secured their fourth one-two of the campaign at the Red Bull Ring, where Norris led from pole and Piastri overtook Ferrari's Charles Leclerc to go second early on.

The two McLarens were then allowed to battle one another, with Piastri briefly taking the lead on the 11th lap, only for Norris to immediately hit back.

Norris ultimately beat his team-mate by 2.69 seconds, with Piastri finishing some 19.82 seconds clear of Leclerc in third.

The Brit now trails Piastri by 15 points in the drivers' championship standings, and the race winner praised his team's engineers for giving the pair a platform to square off.

"It was a tough race, it was tricky, hot and tiring," Norris told Sky Sports. "It was a perfect result for the team, a one-two is exactly what we want and we did it again, so I'm very happy.

"We had a great battle, that's for sure, it was a lot of fun and stress. It was a nice battle so well done to Oscar, hopefully it was a nice one for everyone to watch.

"Inside the car it was obviously tough, especially in the DRS, it's so tough round here and it's hard to get him out of the gap, but once I did, I could manage things pretty well. It was still quick, so it was good fun."

Piastri, meanwhile, believes he could have done a better job when defending Norris on lap 11, while acknowledging he had pushed his team-mate to his limits.

"Intense, I hope it was good watching, because it was pretty hard work from the car," the Australian said. "I tried my absolute best but could have done a better job when I just got ahead momentarily.

"It was a good battle, a bit on the edge at times. I probably pushed the limit a bit far but it was a good race and that's what we were here to do, race each other and fight for wins.

"Thanks to the team. To have the kind of pace we did while battling each other, it was very impressive. I can't thank the team enough for the car we've got."

This is the first time McLaren have achieved four one-twos in a single Formula One season since 2007, when the team's drivers Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso lost out to Kimi Raikkonen in the drivers' championship, finishing second and third respectively.

Norris crashed out of the Canadian Grand Prix when he caused a collision with his team-mate two weeks ago, leaving both drivers unable to make the podium.

McLaren could have endured back-to-back races without a podium finish for the first time since Sao Paulo and Las Vegas last year, but instead, they stretched their Constructors' Championship lead over Ferrari to 207 points.
