Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout set a franchise record with his 300th career home run in MLB action on Saturday.

Trout homered in game one of the Angels' doubleheader against the Houston Astros, taking his season tally to an MLB-high 15.

After equalling Tim Salmon for the most home runs in Angels history on Friday, three-time American League (AL) MVP Trout now stands alone atop the team's all-time list.

A seven-time Silver Slugger and eight-time All-Star, Trout – the 151st player to hit 300 home runs – reached the milestone in his 1,235th appearance.

The 29-year-old signed a 12-year, $426million contract with the Angels in March last year.

It was the richest contract in the history of North American sports until Patrick Mahomes extended his contract with NFL Super Bowl champions the Kansas City Chiefs in July.
