Man Utd, Chelsea both wanted Klopp after Liverpool departure, claims agent
Manchester United and Chelsea made approaches to hire Jurgen Klopp in the wake of his departure from Liverpool.
That is according to Klopp's agent, Marc Kosicke.
Klopp left Liverpool at the end of the 2023-24 season, following a hugely successful stint in charge at Anfield.
He led the Reds to three Champions League finals, winning the trophy in 2019, before also guiding Liverpool to their maiden Premier League crown.
The German also won the FA Cup, EFL Cup, Super Cup and Club World Cup during his tenure, which began in 2015 when he replaced Brendan Rodgers.
Klopp has taken up a position as Red Bull's head of global soccer, but Kosicke has revealed some of Liverpool's Premier League rivals wanted to appoint his client.
Kosicke told Transfermarkt: "Chelsea and Manchester United enquired, although Jurgen had clearly stated that he would not coach any other club in England.
"These enquiries keep coming. He's extremely happy with what he's achieved. And it's still wonderful to go down in history as one of the few coaches who only managed three clubs and were never fired."
Kosicke also confirmed Klopp was of interest to the United States national team before they turned to Mauricio Pochettino, while the agent suggested there was interest from England and Germany's national set-ups, too.
"Maybe at some point he'll say he needs to smell the locker room again. But at the moment he's very, very happy in his role," Kosicke said.
"Before joining Red Bull, Jurgen could have coached the United States or England. Probably also Germany, if Julian Nagelsmann hadn't already been there."
While Germany stuck with Nagelsmann after a promising showing at Euro 2024, England turned to Klopp's compatriot, Thomas Tuchel.
Initially handed a contract to run until the end of the 2026 World Cup, Tuchel last week signed fresh terms to keep him in charge of the Three Lions until Euro 2028.
