‘It’s like a fortress’ – Emery lauds Villa Park support after narrow win over Wolves
Unai Emery hailed the fans at Villa Park as a big reason behind Aston Villa’s strong home form following their hard-fought win over Wolves on Sunday.
Villa triumphed 1-0 courtesy of a sensational long-range strike from Boubacar Kamara in the 67th minute, after Jorgen Strand Larsen saw a goal disallowed for offside in the first half.
Emiliano Martinez was also required to keep out a flurry of chances for Wolves towards the end of each half, including denying Strand Larsen and parrying Yerson Mosquera’s header onto the crossbar.
Kamara’s strike was just his second Premier League goal and Villa’s ninth from outside the box this season – the most of any side in the league.
Remarkably, the Villans are the only team in Premier League history to score more than half of their goals from range in a single campaign (56%).
Reflecting on both the win and Villa’s superb record at home, Emery emphasised the importance of the club’s supporters.
“We feel comfortable and strong here,” the Villa boss told BBC Match of the Day. “The fans transmit positive energy and want us to be together.
“It helps us to connect with the supporters. It’s like our fortress.
“We had to follow the gameplan and be resilient. We didn’t dominate the match and, in some moments, we were struggling to create or dominate.
“We respect [Wolves] a lot and know how difficult it is to get points. We were better at being resilient and consistent, and the demand was better in the second half.”

Asked about Villa’s increasing tendency to shoot from distance, Emery added: “They practice a lot in training, and then you must show it in matches.
“The goal was fantastic. They were defending low, but we were pushing and doing more passes before shooting.
“Wolves had two or three chances but Emi Martinez made good saves. We did a great job.”
Villa have now won five straight home league matches — their longest run since a 15-game streak between March and December 2023.
Goalscorer Kamara echoed his head coach's sentiments about the atmosphere at Villa Park, adding: “If you’re strong at home, you’re happy to play at home. The atmosphere was really good. The fans push us.
“In the first half, Wolves were better than us but we kept calm. We are happy but now we need to rest and go again on Wednesday.”
Wolves, meanwhile, have lost their last six Premier League games – their longest run of defeats in the same top-flight season since a spell of seven successive losses under Terry Connor between March and April 2012, when they were last relegated to the Championship.
“We showed intensity and fight. We didn’t let our heads go down and continued to push,” Wolves boss Rob Edwards said to BBC Match of the Day.
“We were organised and limited them – they can open teams up but didn’t do that today.
“There was a lot to like today apart from the result. We kept going right to the end and I think the supporters could see that.
“I hate losing, we all do, but we’re going the right way and need to believe that."
