Lewis Hamilton hinted the Formula One title race might already be over this year as "there's no stopping" Kimi Antonelli.

Antonelli won the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday, his eighth race win of the season, which is more than the rest of the grid combined (six).

The Italian won in somewhat fortuitous fashion, benefiting from a virtual safety car to move ahead of Lando Norris, who finished in third as Max Verstappen took second.

Antonelli is now 81 points clear at the top of the drivers' championship, and Hamilton is not hopeful of winning an eighth F1 title.

"I think there's no stopping him and Mercedes this year," Hamilton told Sky Sports F1 after the race.

"They've done a phenomenal job and they deserve it."

Hamilton, meanwhile, was forced to retire in Madrid on lap seven after the brakes had failed in his Ferrari.

Prior to this race, Hamilton was the only driver in 2026 who, in the first 13 races of the year, had completed 100% of the laps (798).

Instead, he fell further behind Antonelli after he was left surprised by the issues with his brakes.

"I was already basically before that, braking for Turn Five," Hamilton explained.

"I hit the brake, the car started stopping and then the pedal took a step and, all of a sudden, the car didn't decelerate as fast as it would normally.

"That ended up carrying a lot of speed in, and then just brushed the barrier.

"Then, after that, the pedal came back and it was fine and then I think a few corners later the pedal went long. I don't really know where that's come from."
