Eddie Howe is certain Anthony Gordon remains committed to Newcastle United and would drop the winger if he felt otherwise, amid rumours he could leave for Bayern Munich.

Gordon's future has been questioned in recent weeks, with Newcastle likely to miss out on European qualification as they sit 13th in the Premier League with three games remaining.

The England international has not appeared since a 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace last month due to a hip injury, though he was an unused substitute for last week's win over Brighton.

But reports have emerged suggesting Bundesliga champions Bayern have opened talks with the Magpies over a big-money move for Gordon, who arrived from Everton in a £45m deal in 2023.

Speaking ahead of Sunday's trip to Nottingham Forest, Howe was asked if he was aware of any talks over a possible transfer for Gordon.

He replied: "No, none. That's not something I'm involved in."

Asked if he still felt Gordon was 100% committed to the cause, Howe replied: "Yeah. He wouldn't be in the squad if that was not the case.

"As I've said many times, I don't judge that on communications elsewhere. I do that through my relationship with the player and how I see them train."

Howe recently said he would not use any player who did not show total commitment, but he has now clarified that those comments were not aimed at Gordon in particular.

"I always do what's right for the team and best for the football club," he said.

"Those comments weren't related to Anthony Gordon, they were general, and I like to think I've been consistent with that in my time here. That's not going to change now."

Gordon has scored six goals and provided two assists in 26 Premier League games this season, putting him on course for his worst figures in a full campaign with Newcastle.

He scored 11 goals and registered 10 assists in 2023-24, then scored six and assisted five in 2024-25.

Gordon has also averaged fewer chances created per 90 minutes (1.29) this term than in either of his other full seasons with the Magpies (1.77 in 2023-24 and 1.88 in 2024-25).

He performed far better in the Champions League, though, scoring 10 goals in 12 games as Newcastle reached the last 16 – only Kylian Mbappe (15) and Harry Kane (14) have netted more in this season's competition.
