Darren Fletcher revealed there have been no conversations with the Manchester United hierarchy about his future at the Old Trafford helm.

Fletcher was named as the Red Devils' interim boss following Ruben Amorim's sacking on Monday, and oversaw their 2-2 draw with Burnley in midweek.

The former United midfielder confirmed on Wednesday that he would be in charge of their upcoming FA Cup tie with Brighton, but the club are keeping their options open.

It has been reported that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick have both been identified as potential suitors to take the role on a caretaker basis until the end of the season.

"I've not, no," Fletcher said when asked if conversations had been had with United chiefs. "I spoke to Omar [Berrada] and Jason [Wilcox], that's how the process works.

"For me, I've been focusing on the job in hand. There have been no thoughts from me on my future.

"I lead the team, guide the team, there's been no conversations outside those two people."

United welcome Fabian Hurzeler's team to Old Trafford after going unbeaten in their last four Premier League games, though three of those results have been draws.

But the FA Cup is often a competition that they thrive in, having won the tournament 13 times, a total only bettered by Arsenal (14).

United have been knocked out in the FA Cup third round in just two of their last 40 ties at this stage, losing 1-0 to Leeds United in 2009-10 and 2-1 to Swansea City in 2013-14.

And Fletcher, who won the competition once during his playing days with the Red Devils in 2003-04, believes United should be aiming to try and reach the latter stages.

"It's an important competition and Manchester United are about winning trophies and I think we've had good success in the competition in recent years," Fletcher added.

"We won it a couple of years ago, and lost in the final. It's an amazing competition, it's the first trophy I won as a player. It's a special tournament.

"And you know, with the season so far, not in Europe, out of the League Cup, the FA Cup is a trophy we should be vying to win and giving ourselves every opportunity to win."

Fletcher also discussed Kobbie Mainoo's future at the club, with the midfielder linked with a move away after falling out of favour under Amorim.

"He seems in a good place. Kobbie doesn't give you much, so you never really know if he's in a good place or not," Fletcher said.

"He's like that, it's just his natural way, but I know him well, I've seen him around the building and had conversations with him.

"He's in a good place, I know Kobbie and I think he knows me. He's comfortable with his environment. He's in a good place, he's trained well."
