Michael Keane and Jack Grealish were both sent off as nine-man Everton held on for a 1-1 draw against lowly Wolves.

The Everton duo saw red cards in a dramatic conclusion to Wednesday's contest at Hill Dickinson Stadium, where the spoils were shared following a dramatic conclusion.

Keane had put Everton in front in the 17th minute, as he turned Tim Iroegbunam's drilled shot into the top corner, after James Tarkowski did well to keep James Garner's deep free-kick alive.

David Moyes' side almost doubled their lead when Keane met another Garner set-piece, only to be denied by the woodwork.

But Wolves made their fortune count, with Jorgen Strand Larsen, who is reportedly a target for several Premier League rivals, helping to swing the game in their favour when he was introduced from the bench in the 67th minute.

Inside two minutes, the Norway international had played in Mateus Mane, who calmly slotted past Jordan Pickford.

A bizarre turn of events then saw Keane sent off, after a VAR review for violent conduct – the centre-back was adjudged to have pulled Tolu Arokodare's hair.

Grealish was then given his marching orders seven minutes later after sarcastically applauding referee Thomas Kirk.

Wolves, with a two-man advantage, almost snatched all three points in stoppage time, but they had to settle for one after Pickford made a superb reflex save to keep out Hugo Bueno's curling long-range attempt.

Keane and Grealish's dismissals marked the ninth time Everton have had two players sent off in a Premier League game, the most of any side in the competition.

In fact, Keane became only the fourth Toffees player to both score a goal and receive a red card in a Premier League match.

The defender followed in the footsteps of Vinny Samways (against Leicester City, March 1995), Tim Cahill (against Manchester City, September 2004) and Diniyar Bilyaletdinov (against Aston Villa, October 2009).

As for Wolves, they are now unbeaten in their last three Premier League games (W1 D2), picking up more points (five) during this run than in their previous 22 matches in the competition (three).

Mane made history, too. Aged 18 years and 113 days old, he became the youngest ever Wolves player to score in back-to-back Premier League matches for the club.
