Novak Djokovic has announced he is returning to the Cincinnati Open for the first time in three years.

Djokovic has not played since his semi-final defeat to Jannik Sinner at Wimbledon, having opted to skip the Canadian Open.

His last appearance in Cincinnati, though, saw him defeat Carlos Alcaraz in the 2023 final, winning 5-7 7-6 (9-7) 7-6 (7-4) to clinch the title.

Djokovic has won three titles in his last four appearances in Cincinnati (also 2018 and 2020), while he has also reached the final a further five times.

"Hello everyone. I am very happy to announce that I will be in Cincinnati this year, for the first time since 2023," Djokovic said in a video post on the official Cincinnati Open X account.

"That year I played one of the top three Masters 1000 finals of my career.

Alcaraz – the defending Cincinnati champion – is also expected to make his return, having been sidelined since injuring his wrist at the Barcelona Open in April.

Sinner is set to compete for the first time since clinching his second straight Wimbledon crown earlier this month, having pulled out of the Canadian Open like Djokovic.

The Cincinnati Open is set to begin at the end of August and is the last tournament ahead of the final grand slam of the year, the US Open.
