Iga Swiatek believes she has "shown there is hope" for her on grass ahead of Wimbledon, despite losing the Bad Homburg Open final.

Swiatek played in her first-ever grass-court final on Saturday but was beaten by Jessica Pegula 6-4 7-5 in Germany.

The former world number one has struggled on grass, despite being a former junior champion at Wimbledon, with all of her 22 WTA titles split between hard court (12) or clay (10).

Swiatek earned her first top-10 win on grass on Friday when she beat Jasmine Paolini in the semi-finals and will be looking to carry that form into next week's grand slam.

She has never made it past the quarter-finals at Wimbledon and has an 11-5 record at the All England Club, but she is optimistic about her chances.

"This tournament shows there is hope for me on grass," said Swiatek after the final.

"I'm happy we can play here, and I'm happy I could prove that."

Jessica Pegula, who stormed to victory after facing just one break point in the final, which she defended, also had a message for Swiatek in her on-court interview.

"I know you say you can't play on grass, but trust me, you can still play pretty good on grass," Pegula told her. "Cut yourself some slack.

"Good luck for next week. I know it's a short turnaround for both of us."

Swiatek begins her Wimbledon campaign against Polina Kudermetova, while Pegula will come up against Elisabetta Cocciaretto in her opener.
