Auger-Aliassime sinks Mannarino in straight sets to retain Montpellier crown
Felix Auger-Aliassime revelled in "amazing emotions" after beating Adrian Mannarino to complete a successful defence of his Open Occitanie crown.
The top seed went back-to-back in Montpellier, following a 6-3 7-6 (7-4) victory over his French opponent in 96 minutes on Sunday.
Auger-Aliassime claimed his ninth ATP Tour-level title, moving clear of Milos Raonic for the most by a Canadian player in the Open Era.
The 25-year-old, who did not face a single break point during the final, has also now won more indoor tour-level matches this decade (89).
"Adrian is always a very tough opponent to play, for all players, I think," said Auger-Aliassime in his on-court interview.
"That's why myself and all our peers on the tour have so much respect for him and the challenge he poses on the court.
"I knew it was going to be a tough match today, so I'm very happy. It's amazing emotions to win here again. I'm thrilled with my whole week and especially today."
