Zverev cruises past Tiafoe to stay in hunt for maiden Indian Wells title
Alexander Zverev brushed aside Frances Tiafoe in straight sets to record his 100th ATP Masters 1000 win on hard courts and reach the quarter-finals at Indian Wells.
Zverev, who has now equalled his best result at the tournament, earned a 6-3 6-4 victory in 90 minutes to set up a meeting with Arthur Fils in the next round.
After an even opening to the game, Zverev took the initiative in the sixth game, converting his second break point as he went on a three-game winning streak.
He served out the first set, on his second set point, but had to hold his nerve as Tiafoe upped his game, though he could not convert a break point while holding a 2-1 lead.
Another run of three straight games was enough to put Zverev back in control, and he served out the match with little pressure.
"I took control of the match," Zverev said. "I felt I was dictating the rallies from the baseline and playing on my terms.
"I am really pleased with that. It is something I have been really open on and it worked."

Data Debrief: Zverev hits century
Zverev is a seven-time Masters 1000 champion and is chasing his first trophy at this level since Paris in 2024, and he reached a landmark victory on hard courts on Tuesday.
He has reached a 36th career quarter-final at ATP Masters 1000 events, surpassing Andy Roddick (35) for the outright ninth-most since the format's introduction in 1990.
And among currently active players, only Novak Djokovic (97) has reached more quarter-finals than Zverev (36) at ATP Masters 1000 events.
