The New York Yankees crushed the Toronto Blue Jays 20-6 to move back into second place in the MLB's American League (AL) East.

After a poor run of form threatened to eliminate the Yankees from playoff contention, the Yankees are back to their best following six consecutive wins.

The Yankees humbled AL East rivals the Blue Jays on Tuesday thanks to DJ LeMahieu and Luke Voit, who became the first players at the top of New York's batting order to have five RBIs in the same game.

Voit homered twice to improve his MLB-leading total to 18 and LeMahieu had four hits to go with his five RBIs in New York, where the Yankees used a seven-run second-inning to see off the Blue Jays.

The Yankees also welcomed back All-Star slugger Giancarlo Stanton from injury, following a 32-game absence.

Christian Yelich, meanwhile, returned to form with a home run and three hits as the Milwaukee Brewers routed the St Louis Cardinals 18-3.

Trailing 1-0 in the opening inning, Yelich and Ryan Braun hit back-to-back solo homers to fuel the Brewers in Milwaukee.

 

Senzatela pitches complete game, Duvall stays hot

Antonio Senzatela pitched the first complete game of his career as the Colorado Rockies beat the Oakland Athletics 3-1. He allowed six hits and retired his last eight batters against the AL West-leading Athletics.

Adam Duvall equalled an Atlanta Braves record with his 10th home run in September. Duvall hit a homer in the fourth inning for his 15th of the season and 10th of the month, matching the franchise mark for September shared by Dale Murphy (1983) and Chipper Jones (1999).

Ryan Yarbrough snapped a personal 16-game winless streak as the AL East-leading Tampa Bay Rays topped World Series champions the Washington Nationals 6-1.

 

Woeful Walker

It was a rough outing for Taijuan Walker and the Blue Jays. Walker lasted just 1.6 innings and allowed seven runs, one earned, and six hits. He also allowed back-to-back homers to Voit and Aaron Hicks. Team-mate Shun Yamaguchi also struggled, allowing seven runs on two hits in 1.3 innings.

Blue Jays at Yankees

The Yankees will look to retain second position in the AL East when they resume hostilities with the Blue Jays in game two on Wednesday. Gerrit Cole will start for the Yankees, while Toronto's Tanner Roark takes to the mound midweek.
