Suryakumar Yadav praised Oman for their “unbelievable brand of cricket” during India’s 21-run win at the Asia Cup.

Oman threatened to cause an upset in the final group stage match of the tournament after both Aamir Kaleem (64) and Hammed Mirza (51) made half-centuries, but India held on to maintain their perfect start to the competition.

The Oman batters made it a tough game for the India bowlers, though Arshdeep Singh did pick up the wicket he needed to become the first Indian player to reach 100 wickets in the T20I format.

After securing their third consecutive win to start the tournament, Yadav credited a strong performance from underdogs Oman.

“The overall impression, I feel Oman played an unbelievable brand of cricket,” said Yadav.

“[Knowing their coach] I knew there would be something [from them]. It was amazing. I really enjoyed watching them bat.”

Sanju Samson, who scored a team-high 56 for India, added: “They bowled really well. Have to give them credit for the way they bowled and batted.

“They bowled well in the powerplay, they were swinging the ball up front. You take two balls to set your eye in and that is the only way to go in this format.

“Any contribution for the country, you have to take the positives and keep learning and keep going.

“It was a bit hot and humid out there. Working on my fitness for the past few weeks. We have a good trainer in Adrian. It has been a while (since I batted). Really good to spend some time out in the middle and feels really good to contribute.”

India, who had already qualified for the next round, will face Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh in the Super Four stage.

They face Pakistan first on September 21 before facing Bangladesh and Sri Lanka on September 24 and 26 respectively.
