Kelsey Mitchell scored 33 points to set a WNBA season scoring record, Caitlin Clark had 28 points and matched a season high with 14 assists and the Indiana Fever beat the Toronto Tempo 103-85 on Friday night for their eighth win in 10 games.

With a 3-pointer in the third quarter, Mitchell eclipsed the 1,021 points A’ja Wilson scored for Las Vegas in 2024. Mitchell has 1,034 points this season.

Mitchell also scored at least 20 points for the 25th consecutive game, extending her WNBA record. She shot 12 for 17 and went 7 for 11 from 3-point range.

Clark shot 7 for 15 and went 2 for 8 from distance for her 14th double-double in her first game since helping the U.S. win the women’s FIBA World Cup in Germany. She made 12 free throws without a miss.

The game was the first for both teams following a nearly three-week World Cup break.

Toronto's Laura Juskaite scored 22 points and Kiki Rice had 18, but the Tempo lost their fifth straight.

Stewart leads Liberty past Lynx

Breanna Stewart scored 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Jonquel Jones had 18 points and 10 rebounds, and the New York Liberty beat the slumping Minnesota Lynx 93-81 in a possible first-round playoff matchup.

Stewart moved past Sue Bird and into ninth place on the WNBA's career scoring list with 6,806 points. She's five points behind Cappie Pondexter for eighth place.

Stewart also had four assists and three steals. Sabrina Ionescu scored 17 points, with six assists and three steals, Pauline Astier scored 14, and reserve Marine Johannes 13.

Olivia Miles scored 20 points to lead Minnesota, losers of three straight.

Despite the loss, Minnesota retained the WNBA’s top seed while the Liberty moved up to sixth.

 

Streaking Valkyries defeat Fire

Kaitlyn Chen scored 17 points off the bench with a career-high five 3-pointers, Laeticia Amihere also scored 17, and the Golden State Valkyries returned from the break for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup to beat the Portland Fire 82-66 for their fifth straight victory.

Tiffany Hayes had 13 points and seven assists, while Kayla Thornton contributed 13 points and four rebounds as the Valkyries played without star Gabby Williams and top reserve Janelle Salaun, both of whom played for the French team that lost to the U.S. 97-79 in the World Cup final on Sunday.

Golden State coach Natalie Nakase served as an assistant for the Americans, and she is being cautious about her team's health ahead of the WNBA playoffs. The Valkyries (30-11) are in second place behind Minnesota in the league standings.

Frieda Buhner scored 14 points and Nyadiew Puoch had 11 points and eight rebounds for the Fire.
