Wimbledon: Andreeva breezes past Sherif and into round two
Mirra Andreeva breezed into the second round at Wimbledon after a straight-sets victory over Mayar Sherif.
In the first career meeting between the pair, Andreeva proved too strong for her opponent as she cruised to a 6-3 6-3 win in one hour and 19 minutes.
Despite being broken early on by Sherif, the seventh seed responded swiftly, winning six of the remaining seven games to take the opening set.
And she continued her momentum into the second, breaking in the fourth game before sealing the win with a fierce serve that Sherif could only strike into the net.
Andreeva was asked what advice coach Conchita Martinez, who triumphed at Wimbledon in 1994, had given her before the match, but she kept her cards close to her chest.
"I don't think I’m going to tell you guys. I'm going to keep it to myself because this is very elite advice she gives me," Andreeva said.
"Maybe after I retire I'm going to tell you what Conchita Martinez told me in 2025 in my first round of Wimbledon!
"For now, I'll keep it to myself. If it doesn't work, maybe you're not going to see her in my box any more!"
Andreeva will face Lucia Bronzetti in the next round after the Italian defeated Jil Teichmann in her opening match.

Data Debrief: Andreeva ends grass-court struggles
Despite her problems on grass in recent years, Andreeva has been tipped to go far at Wimbledon this time around, with her display on Tuesday suggesting she has what it takes.
Indeed, after winning her first three WTA-level main-draw matches on the surface (at Wimbledon in 2023), she had lost four of her last five (in round four at Wimbledon 2023, Bad Homburg and Wimbledon 2024 and Berlin and Bad Homburg 2025), but she was dominant in this match.
Andreeva won 71% (24/34) of her first-serve points, while only making 14 unforced errors to Sherif's 21, while she also converted five of the 12 break-point chances she generated.
