Venus Williams and Serena Williams have been handed a wildcard entry to play doubles at the US Open this year.

It is the first time in four years the sisters have paired up at a major, with their last such outing coming at the 2022 US Open.

They have won 14 major doubles titles together, two of which came at Flushing Meadows, though their last victory came in 2016 as they triumphed at Wimbledon.

The Williams sisters recently played doubles together at the Cincinnati Open, but lost in their opening match against Marta Kostyuk and Peyton Stearns.

Serena also featured in the mixed doubles event at the US Open alongside Carlos Alcaraz on Tuesday, winning their first tie before losing in the quarter-finals.

Venus, meanwhile, reached the quarter-finals of the US Open doubles last year with Leylah Fernandez.

The doubles competition will start on September 3, with Venus also being handed a wildcard entry for the singles event, which starts on August 30.
