West Brom have named James Morrison as their head coach on a permanent basis after the former midfielder led them to Championship safety.

Morrison, who made 341 appearances throughout a 12-year stint as a player at the Hawthorns, took the reins as interim head coach in February.

That appointment came after former Minnesota United boss Eric Ramsay was dismissed after just nine games at the helm, with the club at threat of dropping to League One.

Since then, the Baggies have recorded four wins, six draws and one defeat in 11 games under Morrison, the joint-eighth best return in the Championship in that time. 

Despite being hit with a two-point deduction for breaching the EFL's financial rules, West Brom ensured they will be playing second-tier football in 2026-27 when they drew 0-0 with promotion-chasing Ipswich Town last Saturday.

They finish their campaign away to already-relegated Sheffield Wednesday this Saturday, when they could climb as many as four places, from 21st to 18th.

Morrison told the club's website: "I'm honoured and humbled to have been appointed head coach of this great football club.  

"I would like to thank everyone for their efforts during my time as interim – not least the fans who backed us to safety. 

"I will never forget the end to the Ipswich game when it felt like it was us against the world, with the atmosphere off the pitch matching the efforts of the players on it. Here's to more of that, please."
