Wang revels in 'dream' week after reaching Berlin Open final
Xinyu Wang described her run to the Berlin Open final as a "dream" as she reached the showpiece match with a win over Liudmila Samsonova on Saturday.
Wang, who is ranked 49th in the world, emerged a 6-4 6-1 victor against Samsonova to reach her first singles final on the WTA Tour.
The Chinese player has also beaten the likes of French Open champion Coco Gauff, eighth seed Paula Badosa and Daria Kasatkina on her run to the final.
The 23-year-old is a grand slam doubles champion (2023 Roland-Garros) and also won the Berlin doubles title last year, but had gone 0-6 in her first six tour singles semi-finals.
But Wang was able to change all of that to set up a clash with Marketa Vondrousova, who stunned world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the other semi-final, on Sunday.
While enjoying every moment of her run to the Berlin final, Wang revealed she did not expect to reach this stage of the tournament, saying: "This week has been a dream for me.
"I've been playing unbelievable tennis here. I don't know, it's something with Berlin, I guess!
"Coming into this match here, coming into every match, I wasn't expecting anything, you know. For me, it was really just to enjoy the stage."

And the tennis that Wang described in her own words as "unbelievable" was on show in her final four meeting with Samsonova.
She converted four of the nine break points she created against her opponent, while also saving three of the four break points she faced against Samsonova.
Wang also ended the match with an 87% success rate on her first serve points (20/23) to Samsonova's 71% (15/21), while the pair both fired three aces each.
She finished the match at the first time of asking as Samsonova sent a backhand long, and now Wang is aiming for her first singles title on tour.
