Wales finally end winless run but Scotland falter against Fiji
Wales finally ended their 18-match windless run as they held on for a 31-22 win over Japan, levelling their overseas series at 1-1.
Wales withstood a late rally from their opponents, with two tries from scrum-half Kieran Hardy and one from Josh Adams gave them a commanding 21-3 lead at half-time.
The visitors were aiming to avoid setting a Tier One record of 19 successive international defeats, surpassing the sequence of France between 1911 and 1920.
But Japan, as they had done in the previous match last week, improved after the break, as three tries put them to within two points of Wales' total.
However, fly-half Dan Edwards, who was handed his first start, sealed the win with a late try to give Wales their first victory since October 2023.
Wales' next international will be in November when they face Argentina at the Millenium Stadium.

Meanwhile, Scotland suffered a potentially damaging defeat away to Fiji as they lost 29-14.
They made a dream start as full-back Kyle Rowe scored after only three minutes, but they struggled from thereafter.
Scotland were put on the backfoot by Fiji and conceded countless penalties, allowing their opponents to take control of proceedings.
This frustration was summed up by Darcy Graham being sent off in the second half for a second yellow-card, which led to a penalty try being awarded.
This defeat to Fiji, the ninth-ranked team in the world, is likely to cost Scotland ranking points and could mean they are outside the top six of the world rankings when the World Cup draw is announced in December.
