Iga Swiatek thrashed Maya Joint to help Poland secure a 2-1 win over Australia at the United Cup.

Swiatek cruised to a 6-1 6-1 victory in just 57 minutes to get the victory on Friday, giving Poland a 1-0 lead over the hosts.

Joint won her first service game in each set before Swiatek showed her dominance in Sydney, with the home favourite also having to save three break points in the only game she won in the second.

However, Alex De Minaur restored parity for Australia with a hard-fought victory over Hubert Hurkacz in the men’s singles.

De Minaur prevailed 6-4 4-6 6-4 in two hours and 21 minutes, while there was just one break of serve in each set as there was very little to separate the two players.

Though it was Poland who prevailed in the mixed doubles as Katarzyna Kawa and Jan Zielinski defeated Storm Hunter and John-Patrick Smith 6-4 6-0 in the decider.

Poland will face the United States in a repeat of the 2025 final, with Iga Swiatek set to face Coco Gauff in the women’s singles.

Data Debrief: No nonsense Swiatek

Swiatek has now won 12 singles matches in straight sets at the United Cup.
