United Cup: Gauff sees off Swiatek but Poland inflict revenge on United States
Poland booked their spot in the final of the United Cup after defeating holders the United States 2-1 in a repeat of last year's championship matchup, despite Iga Swiatek's defeat to Coco Gauff.
Swiatek had the chance to seal Poland's place in the showpiece after Hubert Hurkacz defeated Taylor Fritz in straight sets, but the Pole was no match for Gauff.
After saving four break points in the very first game of her 6-4 6-2 win, Gauff held her nerve to break twice and take the opening set.
The second proved to be far more straightforward for the American, who raced into a 5-0 lead before clinching victory with her fourth match point.
It was a much tighter contest between Hurkacz and Fritz, with both players holding each of their serves on their way to the tiebreaks.
Hurkacz came out on top in the deciders, winning 7-6 (7-1) 7-6 (7-2) to continue his fine return from injury.
And it proved to be a similar story in the mixed doubles, with the Polish duo of Jan Zielinski and Katarzyna Kawa defeating Gauff and Christian Harrison 7-6 (7-5) 7-6 (7-3).
Poland will face Switzerland in the final after they knocked out Belgium in the other semi-final.
Belinda Bencic proved to be crucial for Switzerland once again, winning her singles match against Elise Mertens and her doubles decider alongside Jakub Paul.

Data Debrief: Silver lining for Gauff
Though in vain, Gauff is just the second player to claim four consecutive head-to-head victories over Swiatek at WTA level, along with Jelena Ostapenko.
Hurkacz (10) is the third player to claim 10+ singles match wins at the United Cup, along with Swiatek (15) and Fritz (10).
Bencic, meanwhile, now accounts for 68.8% (11/16) of Switzerland's total match victories at the United Cup, since the event's inauguration in 2023.
