Thunder guard Topic has testicular cancer
Oklahoma City Thunder guard Nikola Topic has been diagnosed with testicular cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy, team general manager Sam Presti announced on Thursday.
The defending NBA champion Thunder said earlier this month that Topic had a testicular procedure and would be sidelined for at least four weeks, but the cancer diagnosis was not revealed until the 12th overall pick of the 2024 NBA Draft began treatment.
Presti said Topic has "a tremendous group of oncologists" and "they are extremely positive about his outlook".
Topic has yet to make his NBA debut after missing his rookie season due to a torn ACL.
The 20-year-old Serbia native saw action in the summer league this year and started the Thunder's preseason opener on October 5 before undergoing the procedure the next day.
Topic played 31 minutes in that game and had 10 points, seven assists and four rebounds in Oklahoma City's 135-114 win over the Charlotte Hornets.
