Swiatek overcomes Kasatkina test to reach Qatar quarter-finals
Iga Swiatek came from behind to brush aside Daria Kasatkina and reach the Qatar Open quarter-finals.
Kasatkina held her nerve to take the first set, but was no match for a resurgent Swiatek, who triumphed 5-7 6-1 6-1 in two hours and 17 minutes.
Swiatek's opponent earned a break in the opening game, before defending two break points in the second, but the Pole soon pulled back level in the sixth game.
And when Swiatek took a 5-3 lead, it looked like she might take the first set, but Kasatkina broke straight back, winning the final four games and converting her second set point.
Swiatek rallied in style, though, fending off three break points at the start of the second set and going on a five-game winning run.
The top seed was equally as comfortable in the decider, and she sealed victory at the third time of asking.

She is joined in the last eight by Jelena Ostapenko, who cruised past Camila Osorio 6-3 6-1 in 55 minutes.
Ostapenko now has 23 wins at the Qatar Open, the most of any player at this event since the inception of the tournament in 2001.
But Mirra Andreeva will not be taking part in the quarter-finals, having been downed in three sets by Victoria Mboko.
Mboko came out on top 6-3 3-6 7-6 (7-5), and, since the Canadian Open 2025, when she claimed her first career WTA-level title, only Elena Rybakina (36) and Swiatek (31) have won more WTA-level main draw matches than the 19-year-old (27, equalling Aryna Sabalenka).
Data Debrief: Swiatek surges into yet another quarter-final
Swiatek has now reached the quarter-finals in 61.9% (26/42) of the WTA 1000 events she has appeared in, surpassing Serena Williams (61.2%, 30/49) for the best since the format's introduction in 2009.
And she is only the second player to reach the quarter-finals of the Qatar Open in five consecutive years, after Agnieszka Radwanska between 2012 and 2016.
