Swiatek delighted with improvements against Sakkari at Indian Wells
Iga Swiatek rectified her errors from her Qatar Open exit last month after defeating Maria Sakkari in straight sets at the Indian Wells Open.
Sakkari knocked Swiatek out in Doha, but the second seed prevailed in California, winning 6-3 6-2 in 86 minutes.
Despite Sakkari breaking her opponent's serve in the opening game, before saving two break points of her own, Swiatek found her rhythm to convert two of her next three break points to clinch the first.
The pair exchanged breaks again early on in the second, but Swiatek upped the gears again to secure two further breaks on her way to victory.
When asked about the differences she made from her defeat to Sakkari in Doha, Swiatek said: "I think I adjusted better to the shorter balls than I did in Doha.
"I remember it was quite annoying there making mistakes from these balls. I also understood the wind a bit better.
"I think I served better, maybe. The return was also, like, on point. I remember in Doha mishitting and not hitting clean sometimes.
"Today [Monday] I could really feel free to push Maria. Yeah, I just had good timing, I would say."
