Luis Suarez revealed he prefers Harry Kane over Erling Haaland as a striker as the Bayern Munich forward "understands the game differently".

Kane and Haaland have become two of the most prolific strikers in Europe's top five leagues over recent years; Kane has scored the most goals across all competitions among players in the top five European leagues over the last three seasons (146), while Haaland has scored the third-most (110, Kylian Mbappe has 130).

Not including the Club World Cup, Kane has scored 61 goals in all competitions this season, more than any other player across Europe's top five leagues, while overperforming his expected goals (44.4 xG) by 16.6. He averaged a goal every 66.4 minutes.

Meanwhile, with 27 Premier League goals in 2025-26, Haaland won his third Premier League Golden Boot in four seasons with Manchester City.

He is the fifth player to win the award as many times, after Thierry Henry (four), Mohamed Salah (four), Alan Shearer (three) and Kane (three).

Both strikers won two trophies this season (Kane – Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, Haaland – EFL Cup, FA Cup), though Suarez believes the two frontmen can be separated.

Suarez told Mundo Deportivo: "I have two or three [differences].

"Haaland is a lethal number nine in the box, although the team has to play for him. I prefer Harry Kane. He links up much better with the rest of the team.

"He makes movements thinking about a team-mate's counter-movement, he understands the game differently. I love those kinds of details."
