Sorribes Tormo and Bucsa lead Spain to Billie Jean King Cup semis

Spain will face Czechia in the Billie Jean King Cup semi-finals after Cristina Bucsa and Sara Sorribes Tormo led them to a 2-1 win over Kazakhstan.

Bucsa and Sorribes Tormo won the decisive doubles match to seal their spot in the final four, saving a remarkable 18 break points against Zhibek Kulambayeva and Anna Danilina.

Jessica Bouzas Maneiro had given Spain the lead after beating Sonja Zhiyenbayeva 6-2 6-2 in the first match of the tie, but Kazakhstan were able to level things up.

Yulia Putintseva battled her way past Bucsa with a 6-2 3-6 6-1 victory, only for the Spaniard to atone for her defeat when teaming up with Sorribes Tormo.

In what was a thrilling one-hour-and-27-minute contest, Bucsa and Sorribes Tormo secured a 6-2 7-5 win and also Spain's spot in the semi-finals for the first time since 2008.

Awaiting Spain in the next round is 11-time champions Czechia, who beat Great Britain 2-0 on Tuesday with Marie Bouzkova and Linda Noskova sealing their progression.

The quarter-final action continues on Thursday with two-time defending champions Italy taking on hosts China, while Ukraine face Belgium.
