Smith and Duckett star as England complete clean sweep of West Indies in rain-affected chase
England wrapped up a 3-0 one-day international series win over West Indies on a rain-disrupted Tuesday, as Jamie Smith and Ben Duckett guided the hosts to a seven-wicket victory via the DLS method.
Heavy traffic in London affected the tourists and caused the start of the match to be delayed by half an hour, in a sign of things to come on a disrupted day.
Having been put in to bat by home captain Harry Brook, the Windies were swiftly dropped to 28-3, from where they were the masters of their own downfall with some questionable shot choices.
Evin Lewis (eight) was caught by Smith, Brandon King (16) was dismissed off an edge caught by Jacob Bethell, and captain Shai Hope fell for a golden duck in the seventh over.
After Keacy Carty - who arrived with three centuries in his last four innings - stemmed the tide, forecasted rain delayed proceedings for over 90 minutes and caused the contest to be cut to 40 overs.
That stoppage impacted Carty's rhythm as he copped an inside edge onto the base of his stumps off Adil Rashid's delivery, walking for a disappointing 29 off 33 balls.
He had enjoyed a 60-run partnership with Sherfane Rutherford, who made a steady 70 off 71 even as the wickets tumbled around him.
Gudakesh Motie (63 off 54) then put together an impactful, counter-attacking partnership with Alzarri Joseph (41 off 29) to take the Windies to a respectable - if under-par - total of 251.
England made light work of the chase to their DLS-adjusted target of 246 in the end, though, as Smith’s 25-ball half-century - his first in ODIs - broke the back of it early on.
Smith plundered 10 fours and three sixes on his way to an impressive 64 off just 28 balls, farming most of the strike in an exciting 93-run opening stand with Duckett, who also looked fluent with his 58 off 46.
The highlight of the duo’s partnership came in the sixth and seventh overs, where Duckett first hammered Joseph for 16 runs - including two sixes and one four - before Smith pummelled Motie for 20 with two fours and two sixes, before seeing his off-stump castled.
Joe Root (44) continued his good form before top-edging to fine leg, allowing Jos Buttler to come in and finish the game in style.
Buttler ended with 41 off just 20 balls, powering five fours and two sixes in a high-impact knock that sealed an impressive win with 10.2 overs to spare.

Data Debrief: England end ODI series-win drought in Brook’s captaincy debut
Tuesday’s win completed England’s first ODI series win since September 2023, and their first series clean sweep since a 3-0 victory over the Netherlands in Eoin Morgan's final outing as captain back in 2022.
It also marks England's first white-ball clean sweep over West Indies since March 2017, with these three wins coming on the back of a previous run of seven straight losses.
The Windies, meanwhile, have now lost each of their last 13 men's ODIs against England away from home. The last time they registered a win in the format away from home against them was in July 2007 (by 93 runs).
