World number one Jannik Sinner has confirmed his 2026 season is over due to a knee injury.

Sinner has not played since winning the Wimbledon final in July, when he beat Alexander Zverev to lift the trophy for the second consecutive year.

He enjoyed a dominant year up until his injury, winning six titles across all three surfaces and has a record of 44-3.

He won five straight Masters 1000 titles between March and May, becoming the youngest man to complete the 'career Golden Masters'.

"Me, together with the doctors, have decided that I need a course of treatment for my knee, which means that the 2026 season is officially over," he said in a video posted on social media.

"The last couple of years gave me so many beautiful feelings and emotions, which this year is going to be way different, but I also need to think about my long-term career, so I will do everything possible to get back 100%.

"I will thank you already in advance for your support and hope to see you very, very soon on court again. Ciao ciao!"

Sinner's Wimbledon title took him to five grand slam triumphs, while he was knocked out in the semi-finals of the Australian Open and suffered a shock second-round loss to Juan Manuel Cerundolo at Roland-Garros.

His only other loss this year came against Jakub Mensik in Doha.

By ending his season now, Sinner – on top of skipping the US Open and China Open – will miss the Shanghai Masters, Paris Masters and the ATP Finals, as well as the Davis Cup on home soil.

He could also now be dethroned as the world number one by the end of the year by Alexander Zverev, who trails him by 1,280 in the ATP rankings.

The German has won the French Open and US Open this year.
