Sinner eases past Norrie to reach Madrid Open quarters
Jannik Sinner booked his place in the quarter-finals at the Madrid Open with a straight-sets victory over Cameron Norrie.
The world number one defeated the Briton 6-2 7-5 in 87 minutes for his 25th consecutive win at ATP Masters 100 events.
The first set was fairly straightforward for Sinner, who converted two of a possible four break point opportunities on his way to taking the lead in the Spanish capital.
The pair then exchanged breaks early in the second as Norrie looked to force a decider in his first-ever Tour match against Sinner.
However, the Italian converted a vital break point at the third time of asking in the 11th game, giving him the chance to serve for the match.
Sinner clinched victory with his first match point, and will face either Vit Kopriva or home hopeful Rafael Jodar in the next round.
