Sinner downs Tiafoe in Miami to maintain push for Sunshine Double
Jannik Sinner eased past home favourite Frances Tiafoe in the Miami Open quarter-finals, keeping his hopes of winning the Sunshine Double alive with a 6-2 6-2 success.
Sinner, who defeated Daniil Medvedev to win the Indian Wells Masters earlier this month, will now face Alexander Zverev or Francisco Cerundolo for a spot in the Miami final.
He was never truly troubled by Tiafoe, having broken the American's serve in the very first game. The second break arrived in game five, and despite Tiafoe applying some pressure against the serve, Sinner did not face a single break point throughout the opener.
That would be repeated in the second set, with Sinner's ultra-reliable service game helping him keep Tiafoe at arm's length after breaking at the second attempt.
Speaking afterwards, Sinner outlined his desire to win the Miami Open for a second time, having won the 2024 showpiece after runner-up finishes in 2021 and 2023.
"To be hungry, I think, is quite natural," Sinner said.
"Mentally, you have to stay calm and be relaxed, also off the court, because I played a lot of tennis in the past three or four weeks, with all the practice sessions and everything.
"I'm trying to keep going. I know this is my last tournament on hard courts before going on clay, so I'm very happy to make the semis again."

Data Debrief: Sinner still untouchable
Sinner's win here made it 14 consecutive victories across the Miami Open and Indian Wells – the Sunshine Double – without dropping a single set.
Dating back to the Miami Open's inauguration in 1985, the Italian is the first man to ever achieve that feat.
Sinner is also the first man to reach as many as four semi-finals in his first five appearances at the Miami Open.
