Jannik Sinner brushed aside Elmer Moller to continue his quest for the Madrid Open title as he booked his place in the round of 16.

The world number one took just 78 minutes to clinch a 6-2 6-3 victory and continue his stunning form at ATP Masters 1000 events.

Sinner showed his intent from the very start and reeled off four games in a row to take a 5-1 lead, with Moller only able to defend three of the five break points he faced in that run.

The Dane broke back to take the next game, but Sinner wasted no time getting over the line in the first set, converting his third set point attempt.

Sinner took control of the second set with a three-game winning streak.

He then comfortably served out the match to set up a meeting with either Cameron Norrie or Thiago Agustin Tirante in the fourth round.

"I tried to stay calm and serve well in important moments," Sinner said in his on-court interview.

"I think that was the key. There was not a lot of rhythm, so I tried to stay quite compact. Let's see what's coming in the next round."

Data Debrief: Sinner's consistency pays off

Sinner has claimed a 19th consecutive win at ATP Masters 1000 events in 2026 – since 1990, only Novak Djokovic (31 in 2011, 25 in 2015) has started a season with a longer winning streak at such tournaments.

The Italian has won the last four ATP Masters 1000 events, lifting the trophy in Paris, Indian Wells, Miami and Monte-Carlo, and could become the first player to win five consecutive such crowns if he goes all the way in Madrid. With Carlos Alcaraz out injured, Sinner is the big favourite.

He is 26-2 for the season, and has won his last 24 matches at Masters 1000 events, the fourth longest in series history (since 1990).
