Serena Williams handed women's singles wild card at Wimbledon
Serena Williams will compete in the women's singles at Wimbledon after being handed the final wild card.
Williams is a seven-time Wimbledon champion, but she has not competed at All England Club since 2022, when she was knocked out in the first round.
Her last title came in 2016, having triumphed in back-to-back years, while she also reached two consecutive finals in 2018 and 2019, but lost to Angelique Kerber and Simona Halep in the respective showpieces.
She was already guaranteed a return at the grass-court grand slam, as she will be competing alongside her sister Venus in the doubles event.
Williams has claimed the most wins in women’s singles matches (367) in grand slam events in the Open Era.

The 44-year-old had said after the 2022 US Open that she was "stepping away from tennis", but never officially retired.
Williams then made her return at Queen's, pairing up with Viktoria Mboko in doubles, but after winning her first match, an injury to the Canadian halted her run at the tournament.
She then lost her opener at the Berlin Open alongside Karolina Muchova in straight sets.
