Serena and Venus Williams have been handed a wild card entry to compete in this month's women's doubles at the Cincinnati Open. 

The sisters were scheduled to play together at Wimbledon in July, until Serena sustained a knee injury in her first-round defeat to Maya Joint in the singles. 

Serena and Venus will team up for the first time since the US Open in 2022, with the pair having previously won 14 major titles and three Olympic gold medals in doubles. 

Venus has also been given a wild card for the singles draw of the tournament in Cincinnati, as she seeks her first win of the year. 

The 46-year-old has lost all eight of her singles matches so far in 2026, the latest coming in Toronto earlier this month, when she was swept aside by Kamilla Rakhimova. 

Both players have had limited success in doubles action this year. Serena partnered Victoria Mboko at the Queen's Club Championships, where they won their opening match. 

However, her hopes of claiming the title were dashed when Mboko sustained an injury in her singles match against Karolina Pliskova.

Venus, meanwhile, teamed up with Katie Boulter in Madrid and claimed one win before doing the same with Diana Shnaider at the Washington Open last month. 

Among the other players to be awarded singles wild cards for the tournament were fellow Americans Sloane Stephens and Taylor Townsend.

Darja Vidmanova, Elvina Kalieva, Caroline Dolehide and Lois Boisson were also selected.
