Celtic defeated Falkirk 2-0, and Rangers were held to a goalless draw at Hibernian, as Hearts ended the weekend six points clear of the chasing pack at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Danny Rohl's Rangers side had racked up six straight league wins since losing to the Jambos – resounding 3-0 winners at Dundee United on Saturday – back in December.

But they put in a blunt performance at Easter Road as Hibs did their Edinburgh rivals a great favour in the title race.

Mikey Moore did have a second-half goal ruled out after a VAR review, though in truth, Hibs created the better chances with Martin Boyle denied one-on-one by Jack Butland, and Elie Youan putting a close-range header wide.

Martin O'Neill's Celtic consequently climbed back to second above Rangers on goal difference thanks to a routine win at Parkhead.

Tomas Cvancara marked his home debut with a glancing header to get Celtic up and running six minutes before the break, and Benjamin Nygren bent in the hosts' second just after the hour.

Sebastian Tounekti thought he had added a third for Celtic, but it was chalked off when Daizen Maeda was pinged for offside earlier in the move, having inadvertently blocked the ball on the goal line.

While there was disappointment for the 'Gers, they have now gone 473 minutes without conceding a goal in the Premiership.

Indeed, they have kept a clean sheet in each of their last four games in the top-flight, their longest streak since a run of six games between December 1 and 26, 2021.

Celtic ace Nygren, meanwhile, has scored in each of his last four league games, his longest scoring streak in the competition.

Only Hearts (22) have scored goals in more matches in the Premiership this season than Celtic this season (20).
